About Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance

Picture
Established in 2011, the Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance strives to save women's lives by promoting the early detection of ovarian cancer and improved treatment outcomes.  MIOCA raises awareness of ovarian cancer, provides resources and support to survivors and their families, advocates both locally and federally, educates Michigan communities, and funds innovative ovarian cancer research.

A few facts about ovarian cancer:
Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecologic cancer.
There is not routine and reliable screening.  A Pap smear does not detect ovarian cancer.
Approximately 15% of cases are diagnosed in the early stages when treatment outcomes are good.
There are symptoms associated with ovarian cancer - but most women do not know them.  Events like Turn the Village Teal raise awareness and provide opportunities for survivors and MIOCA supporters to educate women.

Symptoms of ovarian cancer:
Bloating --  Pelvic/Abdominal Pain -- Difficulty Eating/Feeling Full Quickly -- Urinary Issues such as Urgency and Frequency
